Communication issue?: Any degree of inflammation in the liver can cause some ascites. You might have a small amount of ascites. Of course, to each patient, his condition is very serious. I'm sure your doctor is also very concerned about your liver but trying to convey that based on experience, he or she has seen much worse. Make sure to ask your doctor at your next visit in order to help improve communication.

Never "slight": Always serious. "slight" cirrhosis is like being "a little bit pregnant." it usually progresses. Get a couple of pathologists to look at the biopsy and give their thoughts -- is this cryptogenic cirrhosis, occult hepatitis c without antibodies, cirrhosis from metabolic syndrome, or is there an identifiable cause? The good news is that if the cause can be found & eliminated, cirrhosis can abate.
