Negative FDG PET/CT: Is good, but does not rule out metastatic disease, since prostate cancer is not well imaged by FDG pet, probably because most prostate cancer is not very hypermetabolic. Newer pet agents are being evaluated and used for prostate cancer patients with rising psa's (biochemical recurrence) and normal ct and MRI scans. These agents are c-11 choline and f-18 fluoro choline, not used many places yet.
