Diagnosis is based : Mainly on clinical signs and symptoms & partly supported by imaging studies. Take care! http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/shy-drager-syndrome/ds00989. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/parkinsons-disease/ds00295.

The findings on: Pet/ct can suggest a diagnosis, but these diseases are diagnosed mainly on clinical grounds (signs and symptoms), with imaging having a supporting/clarifying role. A new functional imaging agent, datscan targets Dopamine receptors and can be helpful in parkinsonism and parkinson-like conditions, but should be performed only in patients where the clinical picture is unclear.
