Spondylolysis: Spondylolysis is fracture of portion of posterior ring of vertebral body usually L4 or l5.Can be postraumatic, sometimes inherited, related to . Underlying underdeveloped or dysplastic bone.Conservative rx such as physical therapy, decreased actvity.When lysis bilateral vertebral body can slip forward.Severe slip cause neurologic issues with compression of nerves usually requires surgery, fusion.

Aging: Some trees grow burls when they grow older. Some spines grow bone spurs when they grow older. Spondylosis describes the bone spurs and bulges on our aging spine (as seen on xrays). One way of looking at them is they are (beneficial) internal re-inforcements. They sometimes cause trouble when pinching and pushing on nerves or spinal cord but for the most part they are harmless.
