Interview several: Find a dentist you can relate to who has empathy for fearful patients. Ask your friends for their experiences with different local dentists and start there. Be very frank when starting your interview and i'll bet you can find someone who will put you at ease. Failing that there are dentists who utilize deep sedation so you aren't aware but that is more avoidance of the issue than conquering it.

Discuss w/dentist.: The first step to take is to visit your dentist for just a general consultation to discuss your fears and options to address your fears. Sometimes the worst fear is just not knowing what is going to be done and how it is going to be done. You also should know that you are in control at all times and you should not feel helpless any time during your dental visits. Medication can also be prescribed.

Fear of dentist: Be very open with your dentist and let your doctor know how anxious you are about dental care. Also realize that you are likely transferring anxiety mistakenly from one situation to another. If you had a negative dental experience also confide in your dentist an tell him or her what went wrong and ask for assurance going forward. Best.
