Will early detection of prostate cancer save my life?

Early detection: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in males, except skin cancer. Early detection is the best way of curing the disease. This is best discussed with a urologist.

This week: Ian thompson posted long term effects of the prostate prevention trial in the nejm. It showed that there was "no difference" in 15 year survival between the group "treated" with Proscar (finasteride) and those observed. If you are 42, have a new diagnosis of prosca, one still can opt for treat or observe, watch & wait, depending on "findings" (psa, gleason sum, etc). So, early DX may be a boon, or lead to harm.
