A member asked:

Curious about starting finasteride for hair loss. my father had prostate cancer in early 40s, so hesitant to begin treatment. will finasteride (1mg daily) increase my risk of low-grade or high-grade prostate cancer? seems research is inconclusive?

Many clinicians feel that it has some protective effect against the development of prostate cancer. In view of your father's history, start your prostate checks no later than age 40 or sooner if you have any suspicious symptoms.

This is very low dose. It is OK to take it. But you should see a Urologist and get a PSa test starting age 35. and if you are still taking it let her/him know
