Chocolate milk: Chocolate milk has been gaining converts as good after exercise drink as it contains both protein & carbohydrates. Depending upon who you ask, many recommend protein shake soon after working out. But beans, eggs, chicken, fish, etc would also do just fine if you have more time.

Protein and carbs: After strenuous work outs you need to replenish glycogen stores in the muscles and liver so eat a carb source (without high fructose corn syrup) with about 30 grams. Then make sure you have a good protein source: a whole food is better but whey or bcaas are good too) about 20-30 grams. Then have a regular meal a few hours after.
