Meticulous Care: Brushing and flossing well can help heal the inflammation of gingivitis. It can't, however, removed hardened calculus. For that you will need to be seen by a dentist. Low cost care can be found at clinics or at a dental school. Many people don't have insurance, but they still take care of their health with out of pocket payment. The longer you leave it the more expensive it will be to treat.

Brush gently: Gingivitis is sore gums caused by bacterial (plaque) accumulation. Remove the plaque and keep it clean and it will heal up in about 10-14 days. Brush 2x daily with a soft bristle toothbrush. Use listerine or pro-health mouthwash daily. Start flossing daily. A cleaning by a dental hygienist (if possible) would be ideal as it will give you a nice fresh start.

See a dentist: It may not be as expensive as you think. And some offices will set you up with payments. Sure beats losing your teeth.

Pay or free clinic: Gingivitis is an easy to treat condition that nearly any dentist can cure, along with your help ( brush for2 minutes 3x daily, floss once a day and rinse 2x daily for 30 seconds). The dentist fee should be affordable and payment plans might even be available. You may also search for a dental school or clinic for free or reduced fees close to your area. The care will be excellent, but take longer.

Local Dental Society: Call your local dental society and see if there are any programs that will do your dental work for free or a discounted fee.
