A member asked:

I'm wondering if you don't clean your teeth for about 3 years. will it affect how long gingivitis will go when you start cleaning after you have it ?

Teeth cleaning: After 3 years of not brushing you may have gone beyond reversible gingivitis to periodontitis, where you have irreversible bone loss. The only way to answer your question is with a complete dental exam. Don't wait. See a dentist ASAP. Your teeth and your health are too important. The poor health of your mouth, bleeding gums, will have a effect on the rest of your body's health.

Depends on your host: Resistance. That means how well your body fights disease. Not having professional dental cleanings is one half of the problem that can lead to gum and tooth loss. The other half is what care you do at home. Time to do what you can to restore health. Disease progresses.

Not acceptable: because untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, a serious infection that destroys the soft tissue and jaw bone.

Sure..: ... the longer you allow your health to deteriorate, the more damage is done to your body. Treating high blood pressure after a heart attack or stroke will not reverse the damage done. Treat your health issues in a timely manner.

Definitely: Not cleaning your teeth for 3 years??? Reason for not doing so??? Just curious because there are some situations where cleaning your teeth is not possible, but someone at least should try and help.
