Possible: Possible but more difficult because if the whitening agent may cause sensitivity of the exposed roots. Probably not something you can do on your own.

Yes: It is possible to get tooth whitening procedure for patients with receding gum since the bleaching agent now is available at different instensity. I would prefer to stick to the gold standard brand, opalescence. It has been around a very long time and constantly being compared to by the competitive product. Moreover, to prevent the sensitivity, Fluoride should be used after each bleaching.

Yes: Patients with gum recession can have their teeth whitened. However, there is an increased possibility of sensitivity, which should be taken into account by your dentist. In these cases, a whitening gel of lower concentration can be used along with one of several desensitizing agents. In cases of extreme sensitivity, the whitening can be done either intermittently or in office tooth by tooth.

Expect more sensitiv: Recession that leaves exposed roots will likely result in more post op sensitivity after whitening. Discuss with your dentist about a a free gingival graft or allograft where possible and/or needed before whitening.

Yes..: For patients with some root surface sensitivity, there are desensitizing agents that can be used for a few days prior to whitening in the same kind of take home trays. This has been very successfully used in my practice.

Yes: Yes but the roots will not lighten and you may experience sensitivity. Find out why the tissues are receding and address that first. Good Luck.
