Yes.: If the product gets on the gum tissue, it will burn it. Now this spot will be likely to bleed with brushing or flossing. The good news is that if you don't get the whitener on the gum any more, it will heal quickly.

Yes: The most common active ingredients in professional whitening products are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. Either one of those can cause from mild irritation to severe tissue "burns, " leading to bleeding. Generally speaking, the damage is temporary, and the gum heals within a few days.
