NTI: Ck with your dentist to make sure the nti is properly adjusted. If it is too thick it can cause the jaw and facial muscles to fatigue and/ or be sore. If it is too thin, you can still be grinding against your teeth causing sore facial muscles and a painful tmj. In either case, the chattering should disappear once the jaw muscles have relaxed. Moist heat applied to the face should help.

See your dds: Most appliances that are used for dental issues need evaluated and adjusted on a regular basis. If the teeth are chattering the retainers are setting up future problems that can be corrected now.
