A member asked:

Can retainers cause a headache? i wore my retainer for first time in a month, my teeth are now straight again & hurt & now have headache

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Absolutely: When retainers are not worn regularly teeth will shift. Forcing them back in may straighten teeth temporarily, causing transient pain. Repetitive erratic retainer wear will actually cause bone damage. Please see your Orthodontic specialist, or the General Dentist who straightened your teeth, for reevaluation.
