One of the problems with fixed retainers is that it makes cleaning between teeth difficult, thus higher risk of cavities & gum recession. Another problem is breakdown of the bonding material that holds the wire in place. This increases risk of shifting & of cavities. Best to see the Orthodontist or General Dentist that originally treated you.
