Seeing your dentist: Probably salt water, but it doesnt matter what you use to rinse an abscess with. You must see your dentist for definitive treatment.

Within the tooth: Since an abscess is from a nerve inside your tooth degenerating anything on the outside has no benefit. Call your dentist to get the infection under control to allow your body a chance to heal.

Depends.: For root canal infected teeth that have abscesses at the root end in bone, antibiotics along w root canal therapy is best. If you have swelling, then the endodontist may elect to do an incision and drainage procedure to decrease the swelling and pain, relieving the pressure. In this case, warm salt water rinses are recommended.
