Ball of foot pain: Sorry to hear, yes you should see a doctor and refer to a specialist for xrays and exam. The pain could be caused by many things, metatarsalgia (pain in metatarsal bones), capsulitis (inflammed joints), ligament tear (plantar plate rupture), neuroma (impinged nerve), foreign body, stress fracture, etc. Hope this helps, please let me know if you have other questions.
