Throat discomfort: It is not a common symptom given your age. Neck muscle spasm, especially in the sternocleidomastoid muscles, can cause throat discomfort. However, if it persists, as it seems to be, you should see a doctor for further evaluation.

Possibly: It is possible as you are a very heavy smoker. It is also possible that this "feeling" is related to trauma from your recent accident or even post nasal drip from your congestion. An evaluation by an ear, nose, and throat doctor should be able to settle this for you.
