Possibly: You do have positive contact...Possibly from kissing your child many times a day as i did when mine were little. Call your doc to have a rapid strep test done in the office... You will have an answer in about 5 minutes. In the meantime, Motrin or excedrine may help with the headaches. Good luck.

Could be: The family transfer rate runs ~1/4 at this time of the yr. Less likely >24hr of meds but you both may have been exposed to the same source or he could pass it to you before rx. A quick strep test with a culture if that is negative ( few false neg tests occur) will let u know.Great handwashing & lack of oral contact keeps transfer rate down, a difficult thing in families.

A 25-year-old member asked:

Does an epidural injection in the lumbar or cervical spine for pain cause weight gain?

Very rarely: The medication used is some type of steroid. A single dose is unlikely to cause weight gain, though frequent and repeated doses may in some cases.

Most of the weight gained with steroid injection is not FAT, but is a result (especially with repeated injection) of salt retention thus fluid retention. Unless you keep taking steroids for some reason, the extra weight will pretty rapidly go away. You could also ask your doc for a short term diuretic and/or cut down the salt in your diet.

Only 10% of partiulate steroid is absorbed systemically. Unless the interventionist is using unreasonably high doses, there should be no systemic effect.

Which is better for neck pain relief after a car accident - naproxen or hydrocodone?

Naproxen: The best medication for pain relief after a car accident is naproxen. Hydrocodone is a narcotic. It may give temporary relief but it is not a long term answer for this type of pain. It can cause dependence and long-term studies do not show any long-term benefit to the use of hydrocodone. When weighing the risks, Naproxen is a better choice.

I have stomach ache, diarrhea and flu-like aches and pains with bad headache; is this just stomach flu?

Most likely flu: With muscle aches, sore throat, runny nose, headache and fever - sure does sound like the flu. Good old rest, fluids, and tylenol (acetaminophen) should help. If the fever lasts more than 3 days, belly pain is getting worse, have blood in the stool, or you can't keep any food down, i'd see your family doctor. Hope you feel better!

Many possibilities: See a doctor. This combination of symptoms should be evaluated and treated if necessary.

Infection: You have an illness...Probably viral (because most illnesses are). Strep throat can also produce those symptoms. It is always a good choice to be seen when you feel so awful...If ears hurt too it could be an ear infection and having treatment choices is very helpful. Make an appointment to be seen.
