Transplants: A pancreas transplant may often be worse than the disease. Immunosuppressive agents have to be taken for life and their side effects can be devastating. A partial transplant from a live donor can occur but the outcome is not much better.

Not done: These procedures are not performed in children because of risk of rejection and failure. Additionally, medication used to suppress rejection may lead to other complications not worth trading for diabetes in a child.
