Yes & usually but...: Lyme disease is usually transmitted by the bite of an infected deer tick, though biting flies have been proven to transmit & some feel other insects like mosquitoes may transmit it too! it's usually readily cured if treated within several days of one becoming infected, but is more difficult to cure when it has become chronic. Many specialists feel chronic lyme is very difficult to completely cure.

Lyme is a spirochete: That is , a type of bacteria that can be found in some ticks, but can also be transmitted by mosquitoes, some biting flies, and possibly fleas. But the most common carrier is the tick. Not all ticks carry the lyme spirochete (aka borrelia burgdorferi).
