Degree of sickness: Some individuals will have a case so mild they are not aware they are sick and the few spots they have are hidden from view in the hair or mistaken for bug bites. The average case is visibly sick with 200-250 spots that evolve over a week. Some, particularly adults or those with immune deficiencies will be severely ill. Prior to vaccines 50 deaths and 10, 000 hospitalizations/yr were expected in us.
