A member asked:

What is the likelihood of not getting chicken pox when near someone with chickenpox?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If a non immune person is in close contact with a person with chickenpox for more than a few moments, the transmission risk approaches 100%. Prior infection makes you immune. Not all that are infected have obvious blisters. Incubation averages 14 days but ranges 10-21. Oral secretions, airborne germs and debris from blisters all spread the germ.
