Depends on condition: An internist can handle most simple thyroid issues, for example if you are hypothyroid and need replacement. As things get more complicated, however, the internist may need to refer to endocrinologist. If your doctor is talking about surgery, biopsy, or radioactive iodine, then an endocrinologist should be involved.
