Genetics: Transmission of idiopathic scoliosis is a complex affair and does not follow the patterns of typical mendelian genetics: dominant, mixed, recessive. Nonetheless, transmission of significant scoliosis seems to occur in about 5-10% of 1st degree relatives. Numbers decline as generations pass.
