A member asked:

When they do a blood test prior to my shoulder surgery what do they test for?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Electrolytes: For a younger healthy person, often times blood work prior to surgery is to check your electrolytes specifically potassium levels prior to undergoing general anesthesia. Sometimes for larger surgeries they may also check your blood counts (hemoglobin or hematocrit). For treating infections other blood tests may be ran like CRP or esr, etc.
