A member asked:

Hours after i had catheter angiogram to place a stent, i immediately developed a blood clot in my brachial artery (requiring surgery) how does that happen? does the catheter damage the artery which then causes a blood clot?

Damage: Yes, the catheterization can cause damage to the artery resulting in blood clot formation especially if there is prolonged procedure time or inadequate use of heparin.

Maybe: If the catheter was placed through your arm, yes it is possible. Any time you break an artery or vein, there's the possibility that a clot forms
