A member asked:

After i had catheter angiogram to place a stent, i immediately developed a blood clot in my brachial artery (requiring surgery) how does that happen? does the catheter damage the artery which then causes a blood clot?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vascular damage: and clotting disorders, can increase the risk of developing post procedure blood clots. Thrombophilias, (clotting disorders), inborn tendency for blood clotting, are more common than once was recognized. Testing for genetic variations, and history of previous clots can be helpful to know, but not all clots are preventable.
