When lymph nodes...: ...Are swollen, it means they are active and the immune system is fighting something. This is a good thing. If, however, the node is red and hot and tender, then the node itself is infected and you need to see your doctor. You should also see your doctor if the enlarged nodes persist for a very long period of time beyond when you are otherwise well.
