Go ahead : Being healthy is never wrong. If you need go lose weight there is no better time to start. It is not likely to affect breast feeding but if it happens then you can make adjustments as needed.

Just eat normally : You burn 675 calories a day just from nursing. That equals 4725 cal/ week or 1.35 lb lost per week if you only eat enough to stay healthy. So if you calculate your normal caloric expenditure before pregnancy (1800 - 2500 cal/day depending on your height and build) you will lose ~ 5 lbs/ month or 30 lbs over 6 months. What a great deal. Add exercise and you could reach your goal much faster.
