Neither: If there is a real concern about al amyloidosis as a cause of your neuropathy, i would not settle for less than a pathology study with biopsy, though not necessarily of nerve. Good luck. Finding free light chains in the serum is neither all that sensitive nor all that specific, though it would have relevance perhaps to other health concerns.

Amyloidosis: They are both useful in helping physicians monitor the disease, but a tissue biopsy may be necessary to completely rule out the disease.

I have inconsistent tests that lean toward multiple myeloma or MGUS. First xray lytic lesion; globulin series serum & urine monoclonal positive to gamma; 24 hr electopherurine neg; beginning anemia; BUN off; other small abnormals. Bone survey neg.
Testing for amyloidosis. Two 24-hr urine protein labs both showed protein 6.3mg/dl. 1st test was 140mg/24hrs from volume of 2225ml of pee. 2nd test was 129.2mg/24hrs from 2050ml pee. Both in range, but if peed more would have been over limit. Worry?
Is Amyloidosis a possibility ? 60 yo Previous blood tests creatine at 1.5, kappa 38, lambda 15, ratio 2.4 ALL other tests normal including no M protein in blood or urine. 6 months follow up creatine levels 1.2, kappa 25, lambda 15, ratio now 1.62.?
Serum free light chain test shows normal kappa (8.7mg/dl), low lambda (3.80), high kap/lam ratio (2.31). Serum $ urine electrophoresis show no monoclonal protein, nor does serum immunofixation. Likely MGUS, myeloma, or admyloidosis? CBC/met panel ok.
Symptoms of amyloidosis on nails? Have macular amyloidosis and afraid that it might progress to nails since ive noticed browish/yellowish bilateral discolouration (not lines and only towards the corner) and few nail pitting and ridges as well?
