See a dentist: The treatment of periodontal disease involves deep teeth cleaning, placement of antibiotics in the gums, oral antibiotics or laser gum therapy. Discuss with your doctor on which option(s) are the best for you. Gum disease depending in how severe it is can take months to cure.

Cleaning: Periodontal disease is not something that you can take a pill for to fix. The treatment for perio is better oral hygiene and professional cleaning. Periodontal disease comes from not adequately cleaning your teeth on a daily basis. This includes flossing. Some patients may need antibiotics as part of their treatment, but the only cure is better daily brushing and flossing.

None: Periodontal disease is multi- factorial in cause. Genetics, home care, professional care, all are important in causation. A good periodontist, not meds, is what you need!

Teamwork over time: Periodontal disease is treated by you & your periodontist working as a team. Your responsibility is to have the necessary dental treatment completed & then follow through with daily proper oral hygiene. It's more like diabetes than an ear infection. It requires daily attention, not an antibiotic to treat it. Your periodontist's job is to render appropriate care & show you how to maintain health.
