Yes: Testing for group beta strep is done for all pregnancies at 35--37 weeks' gestation unless exceptions below. Not tested in these situations since treatment automatic. Treatment in your case not automatic in 2010 guidelines from cdc. No test: 1. If you had a previously delivered baby who had invasive gbs infection 2. A patient who has bladder infection due to gbs during current pregnancy.

Yes: You should be checked for gbs this pregnancy especially if you previously tested positive for it in the past. If negative this time around, you don't need antibiotics (assuming your previous child was not infected with it and gbs is not in your urine this pregnancy).

ALWAYS re-test: All pregnant women should get tested for GBS, group B streptococcus, at 35wks. It's not an infection; just colonizes the vagina. If it gets onto your baby as it passes through the birth canal, it can lead to sepsis (whole body infection) -- so if you have it and you're going into labor, you HAVE to be at a hospital to get IV antibiotics (PCN). Can't do anything about it before labor. No symptoms.
