Should be OK: Penicillin V (Pen VK) is very active against group B strep and probably will be effective. But your doctor probably will want to retest you after treatment is completed to make sure the GBS is gone.

Not in long term: Prior studies of oral antibiotic use have showed limited success.Pen V K will kill it at appropriate levels but the germ is prevalent in nature & often found in the stool. Re- colonization is frequent. As many as a 3rd of women are colonized at any time. The practice of giving IV antibiotics as soon as a woman presents in labor has dropped the newborn infection rate significantly.
