Group b strep: Being GBS positive in pregnancy is not a disaster. What it means for you is that at the time of labor/delivery you will receive antibiotics that will cross over the placenta to the baby to help protect the baby from contracting group b strep (GBS). Many women are gbs positive at the time of labor/ delivery.

GBS: Group B Strep ( or GBS) is significant in pregnancy only. Esp if positive at term, can complicate vaginal delivery by increasing the risk of infection in the new born while passing through the birth canal. Needs to be treated. Also related to ascending infection and Preterm labor.
