A member asked:

Had 2 stents placed for coronary artery blockages. prescribed plavix & baby aspirin for 1 year. prescribed pepcid so gas pain wouldn't be confused with angina. no history of gastric issues. how long can pepcid be taken safely? info says 14 days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

We physicians can override that 14 day warning depending upon the patient's history & medical indications. However, in your case I don't think it's advisable to take it for a year when plavix will be discontinued. Pepcid isn't for gas prevention but is to prevent your stomach from secreting acid& thus protect the stomach from irritating effects of aspirin. You can do that long term with carafate
