Kissing on the face, forehead etc is a lot safer than direct contact with the sore, but definitely not zero risk. A social kiss hello or other quick peck is fairly safe, but for sure avoid more prolonged (sexual) kissing anywhere on his head, face or neck. Best to have no such contact at all until his outbreak has healed completely.
