My partner has an active cold sore but told me it was ok for me to kiss them on the forehead and cheek. so i did. but now after doing research, im worried ive just contracted hsv1. ive tested negative for hsv1 before?

Kissing on the face, forehead etc is a lot safer than direct contact with the sore, but definitely not zero risk. A social kiss hello or other quick peck is fairly safe, but for sure avoid more prolonged (sexual) kissing anywhere on his head, face or neck. Best to have no such contact at all until his outbreak has healed completely.
