A member asked:

My father had a metatarsal bone fracture in foot from an accident, the plaster cast was removed after 6weeks, after removing the cast there was no pain while walking, but there is still swelling in the foot, is it okay to walk or excercise isneeded?

Without knowing if there was any displacement etc it is not proper to give advice regarding exercise. Best is to call the treating doc for it. The swelling may resolve gradually. Also keeping the foot elevated when sitting will help. Good luck

Having swelling after cast removal not unusual no pain on ambulation or palpating should indicate bone healing. A nondisplaced fracture should have heeled in six weeks. Contrast bath is very good for this. Strengthening is also important. Physical therapist can help.
