A member asked:

I started taking metoprolol succ 50mg x 2/day for rapid resting hr on saturday and now it's monday. is it to soon to see a difference in my heart rate? i take 1 at breakfast and 1 at dinner. my rate has been in mid 70's to high 80's?

It's not to soon. Beta blocker effects take place quickly. Long acting metoprolol suffocate is designed to be taken once a day as opposed to the tartrate form. A reasonable heart rate goal to avoid side effects of lightheadedness & fatigue is an awake resting heart rate no lower than 60/minute. I assume you don't have an overactive thyroid.
