I have a-fib with a rapid resting heart rate. my cardiologist just prescribed 50mg metoprolol succinate twice a day ( i was taking 25mg/day). i read that the succinate should be taken only once a day.is it safe to take it twice a day like prescribed?

You are correct, the succinate formula is a long acting metoprolol which should be taken just one a day. However, it is still safe to take twice a day instead one a day although some insurance does not cover twice a day because more pills (more cost). Total daily dose can be up to 400 mg/day in some cases. You can ask your cardiologist for 100 mg tablets if insurance does not cover twice a day.

Yes, sometimes prescribed twice a day, the actual daily dose remains important, confirm with cardiologist, unusual increase from 25 to 100 mg per day.
