I am 72 yrs old. all my blood was good with the exception of my wbc (3.3 ) and my platelets (112). i am a diabetic. my wbc has been low before and my platelet count has too. can metformin cause this ? my dosage was doubled?

If metformin treatment was long term there is increasing awareness about the possible side effect of creating vit B12 deficiency, due to drug induced malabsorption. Leukopenia, low WBC and thrombocytopenia, low platelets are commonly seen in such cases. However, there are many other conditions, such as liver disease for example that can cause such changes,follow up with a hematologist will be best
