Hernia may become an emergency if complicated, specifically if it becomes strangled. Otherwise for uncomplicated hernia, surgery is elective and establishing with a surgeon would be best.

Although it is painful, it is not usually a medical emergency, as long as there is no bowel obstruction or severe pain. You should see a general surgeon for evaluation to see if the hernia needs repair. Good luck.
