Not necessarily. Endometriosis occurs when the type of cells that should be located inside the womb are located elsewhere. Sometimes scattered throughout the abdomen, attached to various structures. The menstrual cycle triggers them to act as they would inside the womb, which causes problems. (no where to drain) Your OBGYN should have an idea where your specific abnormal sites are likely located.
