Yes: Most likely there was endometriosis present at the time of hysterectomy that was not removed. In the presence of hormonal stimulation endometriosis could become symptomatic.

Yes: While endometriosis is most commonly created by a retrograde flow of the menstrual fluids or period through the tubes into the abdomen, once it has taken hold a hysterectomy may not remove the disease in its entirety. If implants of the endometriosis remain behind they can still grow if the ovaries are left in place. Even if the ovaries are removed the endometriosis may leave behind scar tissue.
