A member asked:

I have well controlled type 2 diabetes. a1c is 5.7, and im trying to reverse the diabetes all together. question is the better the controlled diabetes the less chance of getting a stroke or any cancers associated with diabetes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The complications of diabetes are a direct result of the high glucose environment on sensitive target tissues. Like temperature, your tissues tolerate a normal glucose range without damage. The better your hour to hour//day to day glucose control the less chance tissue damage occurs. As your management approaches the best control, your risk of these complications approaches that of non-diabetics.
