A member asked:

A few weeks ago, i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. my a1c was 12.7% and my blood sugar when first examined was 590. my question is, can i get this under control without insulin? i have a girlfriend who has it and she helps with advice?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aside from diet modification (low carbohydrates) which may assist control of DM2, insulin may be required to bring your A1C to the 5-6 range. The benefit of exercise, diet control and insulin if needed can seriously lower long tern cardiac/stroke incidence. See an endocrinologist for guidance.
