Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a common finding on echocardiography but can be difficult to quantify due to multiple dynamic factors that affect severity of MR and the three-dimensional (3D) nature of the jet, i.e. it is dynamic reading which depends on several data not just a simple area measurement so the severity of MR is estimated and dictated by the cardiologist.
