I have been prescribed lisinopril-hctz 20/12.5 tab take 2 tablets daily, metoprolol succinate er 100 mgs twice a day and my doctor just added amlodipine besylate 10 mg tab 1tablet a day. is this safe?

It depends what your race and blood pressure before Amlodipine was added. Certain race is more sensitive than others and 10 mg of amlodipine can lower systolic pressure more than 20 mmHg in some people. In general, if your systolic pressure was still above 160 with the max doses of Lisinopril/Hctz and Metoprolol succinate, you can safely take the added amlodipine dose of 10 mg. Take care!

Relatively common combo for patients with resistant hypertension, drug specific side effects apply, for Amlodipine among the most common constipation and leg swelling. Lifestyle changes, losing weight if applicable and ruling out medical causes for high blood pressure are critical in order to reduce chemical load.
