By UPTODATE: Most HPV infections, including those with carcinogenic HPV genotypes, typically resolve within 12 months. Carcinogenic HPV infections that PERSIST BEYOND 12 months (as your wife is) increase the likelihood of precancerous or cancerous lesions, although not all persistent infections progress.
