It means that the pressure in the left atrium (LA), one of the 4 heart chambers, is higher than the usual value during relaxation when it is filling with blood. The LA receives blood from the lung and pumps it into the Left ventricle (LV) that then pumps the blood to the rest of the body. Usually resistance from the LV increases LA pressure but without the whole picture, we can't draw conclusions.

That finding is abnormal but somewhat common. It is usually observed in patient with history of suboptimally controlled blood pressure provided there is no significant problem with the mitral valve.
